“UNFAIR!” (Musings in the time of COVID-19)

My friend ranted how unfair it was not to receive relief goods simply because she wasn’t registered.

I explained, “There needs to be a basis for the barangay whom to give otherwise it will run out of goods and funds.” I wonder why she didn’t register when she had ample opportunities to do so and now she has to miss out on this unexpected benefit. But is it really the government’s fault?

Anyone who knows me knows I am no fan of the government no matter who is sitting high and mighty. I will never run out of things to blame it for but not this time. My friend had no one but herself to blame.

Her reaction made me reflect on the day that we, believers, will stand before God to be judged for what we have done for His kingdom (Rom. 2:6, 1 Cor. 3:10-15, 4:5, 2 Cor. 5:10, Rev. 20:12). Will our works survive testing? If they are found wanting, I don’t think anyone would accuse God of being unfair not because we would be afraid to speak up but because we will know that He is right.

My complaining friend didn’t act on the registration because she didn’t know there could be other benefits but it’s a different case for the day of our testing. The Bible is replete with warnings and promises for works that come out shining like gold. Friends, let’s not lose out on the heavenly benefits (not salvation, 1 Cor. 3:10-15) and spend eternity with nothing but regret. Do something now.
