“IKAW NA LANG KAYA?”

A post has been making the rounds in Christian social media circles that got me all riled up because it misrepresents biblical teachings in a treacherous way.

On the surface, it sounds so...so biblical but if one were to examine it further against the light of what the Bible really says, it would show that the person who wrote it is lacking in maturity in the study of Scriptures and in the appreciation of socio-political events. That might sound so arrogant of me but hey, perhaps not more arrogant than him/her. I don't know who s/he is and what her/his credentials are, but I know mine. But it is not about him/her or me; it is about being a Berean who had the "gall" to test whether Paul, the greatest apostle of them all, was teaching the truth (Acts 17:11).

Those who share or forward without doing a Berean is as guilty of spreading falsehood, becoming a stumbling block to the weaker believers and will be accountable to God. Before one hits the share button, it is always best to PRAY first, study the contents, then seek advice from the more mature.

I will not include the message here as I do not wish to increase its audience but I want to address one of its contents which says something like we should just shut up because we can't do it any better if we were to be in the same position. This reminds me of a pastor who was offended for his colleague whose sermon skills left me unimpressed. "Ikaw na lang kaya magpreach."

I said, "That doesn't prove anything. If I can't do any better, it's because it is neither my calling nor my job. I have no skills or gift for it but shame on him if I can."

The pastor went blank that his wife had to explain what I meant.
