WHERE YOU BELONG
“We were encouraged to keep posting pictures to give the impression we had a lot of money and that we were living the high life,” confided my friend to me, talking about her work.
While curating…oh, let’s just be blunt…while lying with our pictures, pretending to be doing better than reality may be unfortunate, it is nothing new. It is the way of social media. Also, my friend’s confession was hardly a shocker given her industry. “Nawala ako ng landas. Nadala ako. I was miserable.”
“That’s because you don’t belong there. That’s not who you are,” I said.
It’s the same thing with being a follower of Jesus. When we do things contrary to who we are, we will be miserable because we are not being true to our born-again nature (Romans 12:2). We need to remember who we are and WHOSE we are. We need to remember where we belong. We do not belong to this world but to Christ (John 15:9).
For believers, there is no such thing as “when in Rome, do as the Romans do.” Wherever we are, we must do as Christ would, otherwise we will be miserable knowing we are displeasing God. We are not of this world that we should want or need its approval. We belong to Christ and it is only His "like" and "heart" reactions that we must aspire for (Colossians 3:2).
