"WELL, ESSENTIALLY...."
It is interesting to see the debate in the US whether churches are as essential as groceries and drug stores during a lockdown. I was surprised how it became a point of Constitutional contention because here in our country, all faiths just said, "Okay, we won't meet physically" and attended via Zoom or Facebook in shorts. Compared to the US which is fast becoming a totally secular nation, one would think we, the religious Filipinos, would be howling in protest but not even a whimper. Maybe it's our "submissive" nature...
Now, I will not delve into US politics as my hands are already full praying for and about Tatay. I am just a cursory observer of world news but it wouldn't be me if I didn't have an opinion.
I think perhaps more than screaming and rallying how essential we, the church, are, we are to SHOW that we are by seizing this unprecedented opportunity to minister to the “least brothers and sisters” of Christ (Mt. 25:40 KJV) and let them be the judge.
With our good works in action, let it come from their lips (James 2:14-26), not ours. Let our light shine before others, so that they may see our good works and give glory to our Father who is in heaven. (Mt. 5:16 ESV) So when the time comes that we can finally come together physically, we would find new faces in our midst and recognize they were the ones whose hands we held in the Lord.
