VOLTES V, MARIA CLARA & GOD

“Voltes V” and “Maria Clara and Ibarra” have been outraging some fans and historians for tampering with canon. A love triangle is purportedly added to the most beloved anime in the Philippines. (I wonder if it will be Jamie and Prince Zardoz fighting over Steve?) As for Dr. Jose Rizal, some are seeing visions of our national hero rolling in his grave for veering away from Maria Clara’s characterization.

After watching many shows bastardized by modern adaptations from Sherlock Holmes to Hercule Poirot to Jane Austen’s stories, I have become inured to be concerned. More so, when 31M accepted the historical revisionism of 20 of the darkest years in Philippine history by appending six more.

I have come to accept people thinking they know better than the literary geniuses who created them BUT I put my foot down against tampering and revising the dogmatic truth of the Bible.

If you belong to the handful of people who bother to read my blog, you would notice I rarely address those who do not belong to my faith. But I am very vigilant against those who claim to be God’s messengers but bear news they have exaggerated or watered down. They are the greatest enemy of truth. They are more dangerous than hostile atheists because the latter have no biblical pretense. But redactive messengers are the quintessential wolves in sheep’s clothing. There’s an impostor among us (Acts 20:30). They are from within. John’s first letter is replete with warnings about them.

Distorting Voltes V and Maria Clara may not bring any harm to its audience. Historical revisionism certainly carries dangers even to their proponents, but not as dangerous when the Bible is tampered with. Revelations 22:8 carries a threat of plagues against them. It was God Himself who warned against changing His Word (Deut. 4:2) so ang Diyos ang kinakalaban nila. God’s hand will be heavy upon them (Eze. 13:9) on the day of reckoning, because not only do they book themselves a one-way ticket to hell, they bring the souls for whom Jesus died to save, with them with their lies.
