UNFRIENDING

You know what has been trending lately? Unfollowing, unfriending, and blocking friends both on and offline. I have yet to follow it as I don’t follow people for the reason(s) people are unfollowing, unfriending, and blocking their friends. It just hurts too much to see where my friends stand politically.

Those who have followed the trend say they feel so much better for doing so; some even enjoyed the purging but I guess it’s only “fun” when it’s somebody inconsequential to our lives. But what if it’s a loved one? How do you unblock/unfollow/unfriend them? I can imagine trying to ignore the white elephant and walking on eggshells but until when? For some, the end of the line was the case of ABS-CBN. Even pro-administration people were severing ties with their former allies for rejoicing over the fate of the media behemoth and the subsequent loss of 11,000 jobs---theirs included. I wonder if there will be a mending.

This trend has made me thankful and truly appreciative of the goodness of God towards us, His children. No matter how ill our actions or how regretful our words sometimes may be, He will never unfriend/unfollow/block us. He may (or should I say, will) discipline us but He will never take us off His contact list---the Book of Life (Rev. 3:5).

I saw a meme which said, “Here’s to all the people with different opinions and we’re still friends because we’re all adults.” I replied, “It is because I am an adult that I don’t want to be friends anymore” BUT like I said, I have not banished anyone from my social media and real life---not yet anyway. I have kept them at a social media distance because again, like I said, it just hurts too much. Guess we should all be glad I am not God who will still be with us in spite of us. Guess I still have a long way to go to being like my Father’s daughter.
