THE REAL ENDGAME SPOILER

These past few days have seen people talking (and not talking) about what is expected to be the biggest movie in history, “The Avengers: Endgame.” There are pleas to zip it on social media as “Thanos demands your silence” so as not to spoil the experience for others. Naturally, some just couldn’t keep their mouths shut leading to a bit of name-calling and unfriending. There’s even one unconfirmed news that a man was beaten up because of it.

Personally, except for whodunits, I don’t mind spoilers if only because my heart can’t stand much suspense. I always want to know how a story ends so I don’t have to be in fear for the fate of the protagonists, or if it’s not a happy ending, I can brace for it. Sometimes, it is because I know that things will turn out badly that I avoid the movie. I am already disheartened by news and current events that I don’t need fiction to add to my heartache. And this is why the Bible is so comforting for me. Amidst all the rampant wickedness and downright evil, I know how the REAL endgame will turn out because God has revealed to us the biggest spoiler there is in His Word. Satan is---not will be---defeated and we who trusted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, will live happily ever after with our Heavenly Father in everlasting victory.

But as much as we rejoice in this fact, we need to remember our friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors whose names have yet to be found in the Book of Life. We need to do a spoiler reveal to them. They may tell us to zip it, call us names, unfriend us, or even get physical, but it needs to be done. In fact, a hostile reaction should not surprise us like a plot twist (John 15:18). We are exhorted to share the gospel. The broken relationships and bruises of the Avengers spoilers will get healed but there is none for the souls who will end up in eternal torment. Keeping silent about the real endgame only serves Satan’s agenda in bringing as many souls with him to hell.
