SAD SAMARITANS
Have you seen the video where a big biker lost control of his wheels as he changed lanes and slammed into a concrete barrier? Several cars just passed by his body lying on the wet Skyway. No one, not one even attempted to help, just like the priest and the Levite in the Parable of the Good Samaritan. But unlike the parable which shows faith in humanity, the victim just lay there with cars trying to avoid him, including the one with the dashcam.
Now I will be the last to point an accusing finger at the motorists. Who knows? I might have done the same. Even if I pull up, I wouldn't know whether to call an ambulance or bring him to the hospital myself. I have read of accounts where Good Samaritans were sued by the victim or the family for causing further harm because of mishandling the body.
I wonder how the drivers and passengers feel when they see themselves in the video? I had the shivers as I watched someone die a lonely death when he wasn't alone. I feel for his loved ones who might get hold of the viral video.
The incident is analogous to how Christians are with evangelism. We hardly lift a finger to share the gospel to others thinking it's none of our business or somebody else ("Bahala na si Pastor!") will do it. There will come a day when we will be held to account what we did with the people God brought to us. Are we like the Good Samaritan, sharing the power of the Gospel or are we like the sad motorists? When we stand before God on the Day of Judgment, He will show us the many opportunities that we deliberately ignored and avoided sharing John 3:16 to the souls that will suffer for eternity just because we'd rather be on our way.
