Almost in succession, we read of fraud and deception in US start-up businesses that promised the realization of the stuff of scifi ---detection of cancer from a few drops of blood, crypto heaven, and green trucks that run on hydrogen and battery. All of them turned out to as fantastical as a good DC movie.

Their leaders were able to dupe investors from individuals to large companies of millions and millions of dollars with nothing but laway as their puhunan, and a lot of sham data and prototypes. One was called the next Steve Jobs while the other, the next Elon Musk. One was even on the cover of Time magazine, and they all became billionaires. That was how good they were until the whistle was blown. One has just been sentenced to jail while another was told to make a settlement in millions of dollars. The case of the third is just unfolding.

Reading these reports reminds me of false teachers who are able to amass a following believing in their self-proclaimed divinity, with nothing and absolutely nothing to back up their claims. This is where Jesus stands out. Not only did He claim to be God, He proved it by His many miracles, righteousness, perfect wisdom, holiness, and predicting His death AND resurrection. No other teacher has ever done all, and is all for all in their scoreboard. Only Jesus. He’s the only One who came from heaven with witnesses attesting to His divinity and He’s the only One who conquered death. Why follow anyone else who only knows life as you and I know it, when there’s Jesus who knows the afterlife and is Life itself?
