OPPA, CHOCO PIE, & SALVATION
I went to the international bazaar sponsored by the DFA and enjoyed myself immensely. Been wanting to do some tourist-y shopping but tamad to step on a plane.
Anyway, I was asked by the S Korean booth to play a game to win a Choco Pie. I requested for a demo. The guy accommodated me all-too willingly except for the fact I was going to take a video of him. When it was turn to play, he offered to take a video but I said, "No way!" Good thing because I missed the basket each time but in my defense, they were all muntik and malapit.
Sa sobrang awa na sa akin ni oppa, he pulled the basket close that I only needed to deposit the arrows like how we do with wet umbrellas before entering an establishment. That was pathetic. It was even more pathetic when they still gave me a Choco Pie.
But this got me into thinking. Me missing the shots is just like us trying to earn our way to heaven but falling short. When Mr. Oppa pulled the basket closer to me, it was like Jesus pulling the entrance to heaven closer to us when He died on the cross for us and was raised on the third day, just as He prophesied. So instead of trying to throw and shoot, all we need to is deposit our faith and voila---we have a Choco Pie, I mean, access to heaven. We didn't do anything; our skill did not improve but God, like oppa, made it easy for us.
Some of us however prefer to still try to make it on our own or we feel the GREAT LORD Jesus Christ needs our help. If I had this mindset at the booth, I would have insisted that they retain the distance and I will keep missing in the same way we will never earn our way to heaven, not even an iota of effort.
Again, all we need to earn eternal life is deposit our arrow of faith into the basket by praying for God's forgiveness of our sins and accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior. May you do so now.
