MYOB

These are indeed interesting times that we live in especially when it comes to our spoken and written words----or to be more apt, our posted words. Such passion, such emotions, such vitriol. It saddens me all the more when they come from people who are mandated to speak words of life. Instead, they use the Word as an accusing finger to those who are not professing believers by pepper-spraying them with a lot of Bible verses. Then they get hit with the following reactions:

  • Sarcasm: "3...2...1...get ready for the bible-thumpers!"
  • Anger: "&*#$#%$ off!"
  • Rage: "Holier-than-thou!"

And then they cry, "Persecution!"

Oh puhlease.

This is an exercise of futility. Why are we expecting those who are not claimants of the Word to uphold it? Or worse, why are we not upholding it ourselves?

We are called to "think and act like Christ Jesus" (Phil. 2:5, NCV). Do we ever see Jesus using Scriptures to shame the non-believers? Do we ever see Him stop at condemning them to hell for their sin? No. Instead, He was loving towards them. In fact, He reserved His most hurtful comments at those who profess to be followers by exposing them to be the hypocrites that they are. They expect others to obey the Law while they themselves do not (Mt. 23:3). My brothers and sisters in the Lord, we are being pharisaical when we condemn non-believers and not show them the way to repentance. "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be." (James 3:9-10, NIV).

Heaven does not gain a single soul from our being self-righteous. Instead of seeing the beauty of God's goodness and mercy, they see our mercilessness and ugliness. Don't get me wrong. I am not saying we let wickedness be but we must remember that we are not in the business of judging lost souls; it is God's (1 Cor. 5:12-13). We are in the business of spreading hope. We are in the business of sharing the Good News. We are in the business of implementing the Great Commission so we must always remember to MYOB or to be more specific, MORB---mind our REAL business which is our FATHER'S business. So go and MOFB.
