"MY EXPRESSION OF MY FAITH"

While the filing of charges and the throwing of social media stones at the “Ama Namin” performer is sad and unfortunate, I find it interesting when he says it’s his expression of his faith.
I do not know the “artist” or what his faith is. I am not and have never been a Catholic (I was a non-religious before I became born again at 18.) but based on the uproar, it is safe to assume that what he did wasn’t according to the Catholic tenet.

From an evangelical point of view, one is not free to use the “expression of my faith” as an excuse. Bible believers are to adhere to the commands and instructions laid out in the Word whose author is the Word Himself (John 1:1).

We are not free to express our devotion according to what and how we want but according to what and how God wants. The Bible especially the seldom-read Leviticus is replete with God’s instructions of worshipping Him according to His commands. He will never contradict Himself nor will He accept worship that goes against His will, character, and commands.

In 2 Samuel 6:1-7, Uzzah touched the holy ark of the covenant to keep its balance. Very responsible of him, right? God struck Him dead right then and there because he touched what was commanded by God to be untouchable. The ark represented His holiness which was not to be trifled with, even with the best of intentions.

There are always consequences when we violate man-made laws like telling a bomb joke at the airport or bribing an honest traffic enforcer. How much more when we go against God’s explicit commands?

P.S. A faith that is based on our whims is a faith that worships the self which is idolatry, according to the first commandment.
