ME ME ME
An Oscar nominee got a lot of flak for wearing an outfit that made her outstanding for all the wrong reasons. Her voluminous head (not hair) accessory was so huge that it blocked the view of the people seated behind her.
Instead of being penitent, she responded with a tongue-in-cheek "oops" and "uh-oh" post adding, "But it’s my first Oscars - I am going to go all out. I really wanted to make the most of the day.
The dress is also my way of celebrating my work and the people around me, celebrating my country, and celebrating the people that are rooting for me. This dress says ‘Yes, yes, I am here!’”
Unsurprisingly, that didn't earn her any kakampi as everyone noticed how it was all her, her, her. The Oscars wasn't about her. It's definitely a cause for celebration but it was also about all the other nominees, the stars who passed on, the performers, the presenters, etc. She didn't even win. And even she had, I don't think her winning would surpass the emotional involvement we are still having with Branden's and Quan's wins. We're not even talking about who won in her category.
In a way, it's the same with some of us who go to a bible study or fellowship with a me-me-me attitude.
We go to "score points" with God so He would be compelled to bless us with material wealth for an hour of Sunday appearance.
We go to make people see our outfit.
We go to impress others with our singing, our slang accent, our preaching, etc.
We go to look for a lifetime partner or just a date.
We go because we don't have anything more interesting or important.
And then some go to church to steal from the offering plate.
Being able to attend corporate worship is a wonderful privilege and opportunity. Think of 2020 when we couldn't worship together. Better yet, think of the believers in countries where following Christ and attending a bible study could land you in jail and face execution.
We come to church to focus fully as a group on God and the wonder that He is. It's all about Him and Him alone.
