LOVE WINS? LOVE HAS WON
Four years ago, the “lovewins” hashtag was born when the US Supreme Court allowed same-sex marriage and since then, there have been 29 countries that have followed suit. The Philippines is eager to join the club but, so far, only to the extent of recognizing same-sex civil union[1] where the partners can inherit each other’s properties, grant medical permission, and adopt.
"There are some sectors of the society who want an exclusive hold of the word 'marriage.' For them, marriage has a religious connotation. Then let them keep it. What we want are civil rights, human rights, and equality," said the nation’s first elected transgender official in Congress. The Representative shows more respect to the institution that God created prior to the establishment of both government and the church as we see organizations claiming to be Christians officiating same-sex weddings---when it is not even legal yet. Hence, they are violating the laws of both God and men.
The same-sex civil union option might be seen as a compassionate compromise but it can also be slippery slope to a conditioning where soon, it will be easier to accept legal marital union with another shout of “Love wins!” But, friends, this is not love. God is love (1 Jn. 4:8) and this is not God. This is a distortion and churches who preach this false gospel will be held accountable to the Designer of marriage for being a stumbling block.
Love did not win four years ago; love won when God promised a Savior when Adam and Eve obeyed their desires rather than God. Love won when Jesus obeyed God when He “died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.” (1 Cor. 15:3-4, NIV) Born that way? We were all born a certain way that falls short. “There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.” (Romans 3:10-12, NIV). That’s why we all need to be born again---gay or straight. When we surrender our lives to Christ, true love wins. Real love wins.
