GOD'S MASLOW
If you've studied marketing, you will be familiar with Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. The bottom of the pyramid is the most basic survival need while the top is what gives purpose to our existence.
I am reminded of Phil. 4:19 which states that God shall supply all our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Now, does this mean He will supply all our Maslow needs? No, otherwise no Christian will be poor or sick.
We must read the entire fourth chapter to get the proper context. Paul is thanking the Philippian church for their help in his ministry and utters the 19th verse as a blessing to them.
Super-imposing Phil. 4:19 in Maslow's pyramid, we will see how everything starts and ends with God. The most basic are not food, clothes, and shelter but our need to be in Christ. Jesus is our foundation. It is through Him that God will bless us with His provision. Some may have less than others but in God's eyes, the little that we have is all that we need to glorify Him.
Our reason for being is not our self-actualization but fulfilling God's purpose. God will supply all our needs in the pursuit of His glory. Whatever He provides us with, must be used as a testimony of His goodness and faithfulness that will lead us and others in praising Him. It's the only mission in life that matters because it's the only thing that we will bring to our after-life for eternity.
