CLICKBAITS, FAKE NEWS, & DEEP FAKE

A friend forwarded to me an article with a title claiming that Palau was once a part of the Philippines. It was misleading though. Palau and the Philippines were just part of the Spanish East Indies. It's like saying New York is part of Hawaii when both are states of America.

"Clickbait," I said to my friend.

Clickbaits don't only exist in social media. It didn't even originate in Facebook. It's always been around since the serpent made its debut at the Garden of Eden when he made Eve believe that she could be like God. That was history’s very first clickbait as well as fake news.

Clickbaits headline things that we want to hear which consequently reveals the state of our heart (Prov. 4:23). Eve wasn't contended to be Adam's wife in the care of the Lord. She wanted to usurp them both and be the master but ended up plunging the rest of mankind into slavery to sin (Gen. 3:5). She is blessed though that God loved her more than Lucifer by providing a Messiah (Gen. 3:14) while the most beautiful angel was immediately condemned (Isa. 14:12-14). No salvation for him and his supporters.

But as cunning as Satan was towards Eve, the way he went about it shows that he is indeed the father of lies. Not only does he spew out lies, he is the original deep fake when he took the form of a serpent, instead of revealing his real face.

Strange how the devil knew Eve’s weakness when he enticed her. Perhaps he just took a chance that she would share his same evil desire to overthrow God upon observing her?

Satan may not be able to read our thoughts but he and his trolls can observe our actions and hear our words. There, they can deduce our weaknesses. The Bible says that we only speak of things that fill our heart. That’s reason enough to be careful with our thoughts, words, and actions, and we can do that most effectively when we fill our hearts with whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy (Phil. 4:8).
