CHOSEN

Have you seen the movie, "Knock at the Cabin?" It's about a couple being convinced that they are the chosen. Even as they speak, news of earthquakes, tsunamis, plane crashes, and diseases were occurring all over the world. Only believing that they are the chosen can stop the apocalyptic horrors but they refused to do so.

It was in the darkness of the cinema that I realized almost every fictional character does not know that they are the chosen. When they are told, there is disbelief and resistance until they slowly come to a realization of who they really are and *insert training montage.*

There are historical figures who have become the chosen but they did not know that growing up. Dr. Jose Rizal, smart as he was, did not know he would be the martyr that will unshackle our country from Spanish abuses. Ninoy Aquino did not grow up knowing he would be the symbol of democracy. Cory Aquino thought of nothing else but becoming a good wife and mother. History was thrust upon them.

And this is how Jesus is different from all the other chosen historical and religious leaders. Even before He was born, He already knew He was going to die (1 Tim. 1:15)---and be resurrected (Mt. 16:21). He had no Obi Wan or Laurence Fishburne (I hope I remember the storylines correctly) to tell Him who He was. He knew it even before Day 1 of His earthly birth.
But more than knowing, He did not resist (Phil. 2:8). He may have been frightened, being human, but He still did the Father's will (Luke 22:42).

If Dr. Rizal and the Aquinos had walked away from being the chosen ones, we would be able to find others to fulfill their roles. But if Jesus had said no to the Father, there wouldn't be anyone else to save us. Only He could meet God's standard for a perfect sacrifice worthy of atonement of our sins.

Many may be chosen but Jesus is the only with a capital C, whose sacrifice benefits those who believe in Him for all eternity. Have you accepted Him as your Lord and Savior?
