BLESSING IN DISGUISE
During this time of pandemic, wouldn’t it be nice if Christians had a Goshen-like experience where the Israelites were safe and protected from the hail that struck down everyone and everything (Exodus 9:26)? Or where death reigned in all the livestock except for those belonging to them (v.7)? And then the entire world would see our God is the one true powerful God! All will be converted and safe from the coronavirus and we will live happily ever after in eternity! But we remember Jesus’ words, “He makes His sun rise on the wicked and on the good, and makes the rain fall upon the upright and the wrongdoers.” (Mt. 5:45, AMPC) And this is why we, the forgiven and justified, find ourselves in the same boat now with the most hedonistic and most antagonistic towards God. And this is why some of our brethren have fallen.
Anyway, we don’t read the Egyptians being converted. Pharaoh’s heart was still hardened up to the time he perished along with his army while chasing their former slaves who also turned against God, leading to their own death in the desert.
And even if the world converted, it would be for the wrong reason. It would not be from true repentance but for health insurance. Sooner or later, they will follow the way of Pharaoh and the unfaithful Israelites.
This time of pandemic is an opportunity for us, His children, to show the power of God whether He saves us or not, more so the latter. Let us pray for strength and courage to proclaim during this time of great fear and sense of mortality that it is well with our soul, that indeed it can be a blessing in disguise as we lift His Marvelous Name.
Lord have mercy.
