AUTHENTIC SELF
"Good things will come your way!"
"The universe is rooting for you!"
"The best is yet to come!"
"You deserve good things!"
"Be your authentic self."
Lately, I have been encountering a lot of these rah-rah boosters. At first glance, they sound so nice but imagine Hitler uttering them, or a pedophile or an online scammer.
This is why I reject all these shallow positivity mantras because they should be fair to everyone.
One student wanted a deadline extension because "I was a second late in submitting to our online platform."
I reminded him how he has to manage his time, in preparation for the "real world" out there. We can miss a flight by a second. A vehicular accident could have been avoided by a split second. Runners have been devastated by a mere nanosecond.
He retorted how is it fair when I had given his classmate an extension. I explained how fairness does not mean I will have the same answer for everyone. "My decisions are on a case-to-case basis. Whatever decision I make must not put others at a disadvantage."
This is why these positivity mantras are not fair. What can be good for someone, may put others at a disadvantage. It was good for a tax evader to get what he wanted but it puts the honest taxpayers at a disadvantage. When the universe seemed to be rooting for the axis of evil, at least 35M died. What is good for the goose must be good for the gander all the time.
There are axioms that are fair to everyone though, from Adam to the present 8B. And they can be found in the Bible, starting with Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” You can't get any more self-authentic than admitting to your Creator that you are a sinner.
You want good things to come your way? “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Rom. 8:28) The key there is loving God.
There's no guarantee that the best will come your way this side of heaven but John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Everlasting life with the Father in heaven is the "best" that can come anybody's way.
If you want real positivity, heavily wrapped in truth, go to the TRUTH to show you the WAY and live the best version of yourself with the LIFE.
