A GHOST STORY

It’s ghost month.

From July 29 to August 26, souls are unleashed from hell to bring us bad luck. This is why a feng shui expert advises us to pray, wear happy colors, keep our homes bright, make food offerings, use anting-anting, offer incense, and avoid “starting a new business or career, construction and repairs, moving to a new house, traveling, and arguments.” That’s according to the one who predicted 2020 would be a good year.

1 John 4:1 warns us against false prophets who can even perform miracles (Mt. 24:24) but Deut. 18:22 says that if his/her prophecy does not come true, s/he immediately is a false prophet. It doesn’t matter if all his/her other prophecies came true. Would you drink a glass of purified water with a speck of dust? So we know better than to listen to that guy.

But fulfillment alone is not the test of a true prophet. 1 John 4:1 tells us to “not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God.” In short, even if all his/her prophecies came true, if s/he is leading us away from the Son of God, s/he is a false prophet. A prophet is not just someone who prophesies but also someone who should lead us to the true God.

There is nothing to be afraid for the next 30 days as no soul ever leaves hell (Mt. 25:46). God never said anything in His Word about unleashing souls and Satan does not have the power to do that. He Himself will suffer in hell soon which is why he is trying his best to bring as many souls with him through fake news and revisionism.

While it is good that the feng shui expert said prayers are needed, he did not cite which one. Is it the God of the Bible or all other gods?

He also added a lot of things to do that implies they are as powerful as prayers. When we do all the other things that he suggested, which in one word is called superstition, we are basically telling God that we don’t trust Him and He needs our help. If we can’t trust Him, then why bother praying to Him? If He needs our help, then He’s not God at all. We also make ourselves equal with God.

Ghost month? Turn to the Holy Ghost who will protect us not only for 30 days but for the rest of our lives when we turn to Jesus our Lord and Savior (John 15:26).
